Gun Violence Awareness Month

Mark your calendars for June 7, the 10th National Gun Violence Awareness Day. This day also kicks off the Wear Orange campaign, a powerful symbol of solidarity against gun violence. Wear Orange is a representation of gun violence victims, survivors, and those working together to end gun violence.

If you are interested in bringing awareness to ending gun violence, you can participate in the local events occurring within the county.

  • Anne Arundel County's Moms Demand Action

    • Will provide resources at two locations on Saturday, June 8, to promote Wear Orange.
    • Location: Glen Burnie Library 1010 Eastway, Glen Burnie, MD 21060
    • Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    • Location: Teach the Truth Day of Action-Park Books 555 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. Severna Park, MD 21146
    • Time: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Gun Violence Awareness Artwork Displays

    • In June, the Anne Arundel County Public Library will display soul box quilts at participating branches. The Soul Box is an art-based tool that raises awareness of the gun violence epidemic in the United States.
    • Participating Branches: Easport - Annapolis Neck, Odenton, Severna Park
    • Students from Brooklyn Park Middle will create artwork representing how they define gun violence. The artwork will be displayed at the Brooklyn Park Library beginning June 10. Please visit any of these branches to view these art displays.
  • Gun Violence Awareness Butterfly Craft

    • Join the Anne Arundel County Library in spreading hope, joy, and transformation through the Gun Violence Awareness Butterfly Craft. This independent activity, available at participating Anne Arundel County libraries, is a testament to our community's shared commitment to a safer future.
    • When: June 7-8
    • Participating Branches: Broadneck, Brooklyn Park, Crofton, Deale, Discoveries: The Library at the Mall, Eastport-Annapolis Neck, Edgewater, Glen Burnie, Linthicum, Maryland City at Russett, Michael E. Bush Annapolis Library, Mountain Road, Odenton, Severn, Severna Park
  • Gun Violence Awareness Community Cookout

    • Cure Violence Annapolis will be hosting its first Gun Violence Awareness community cookout.
    • When: June 8
    • Time: 3 p.m.
    • Location: Eastport Recreation Center 1014 President St. Annapolis, MD 21403
  • Gun Violence Awareness Month

    • No Harm will host a Gun Violence Awareness Month event on June 30 at the Pip Moyer Recreational Center in Annapolis. More details will follow.
  • Gun Violence Community Meeting

    • When: June 6, 2024
    • Time: 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • Peace Party

    • Kingdom Kare - Man Up will be hosting a Peace Party
