Excessive Heat Advisory and Cooling Center Information

A heat advisory will be in effect for Wednesday, July 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Extreme heat is expected for the area through the remainder of the week and into the holiday weekend. Because of the humidity, it will feel as hot as 106 degrees outside, or higher.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is reminding residents that most county facilities, including Senior Centers will be closed for the holiday, reducing available cooling relief spaces. County Police stations will be open and have community rooms available for those needing relief from the heat.

  • Arundel House of Hope will provide 24-hour overnight cooling relief from Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. through Sunday at 4:00 p.m., specifically for the unsheltered population
  • Central Services is fully staffed to address building temperature issues. Because HVAC systems may struggle with the extreme heat, departments are encouraged to offer telework, if possible, to reduce heat generated by electronics and lighting in office buildings.

The City of Annapolis will activate cooling centers for temporary relief from the heat. Drinking water will be available at all sites.
