Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Job Description

Nature of Work:

Anne Arundel Peers Offering Wellness Education and Resources (AAPOWER), a Syringe Services Program (SSP), is committed to reducing stigma and empowering people who use drugs (PWUD) through services that reduce the harms associated with drug use and other high-risk activities among individuals and communities in Anne Arundel County.

Plans and organizes the scheduling of SSP staff and management of all syringe services activities, staff scheduling and training. Manages peer-delivered syringe services by training and overseeing outreach staff and all outreach-related activities. Provides the scheduling and management of SSP street outreach to PWUD. Delivers services from a background of significant experience and acts as a leader within the AAPOWER outreach team on issues of drug user health and service access. May also be needed to provide general program services such as monitoring SSP outreach sites, conducting program inquiries and street outreach.

This position is typically performed outside of a traditional office environment. Work environments may include, but are not limited to, outdoors (e.g., during street outreach), at community-based organizations throughout the county and in Department of Health offices. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate degree in public health or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Minimum of two years working in harm reduction with people who use drugs in a harm reduction program. Significant work or personal life experience in the areas of harm reduction, syringe services and drug use. Skills in the areas of safer injection and drug use techniques, overdose prevention, HIV and HCV prevention and treatment desired. Working in syringe services and providing street outreach to people who inject drugs. Leading a program. Must be an organized and self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, basic computer skills and the ability and willingness to be hands-on and solve problems as they arise. Excellent and situation-appropriate oral and written communication skill. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
