Job Description
Nature of Work: Coordinate and expand Anne Arundel Peers Offering Wellness Education and Resources (AA POWER), a harm reduction peer-delivered direct street outreach program, consisting of a network of people with lived experience related to drug use. AA POWER aims to reduce risks associated with drug use, such as drug overdoses and the spread of infectious disease, and to improve overall physical, mental and societal health by providing risk reduction strategies through infectious disease testing, overdose prevention training, and referrals related to drug use, substance use disorder, treatment, and recovery. AA POWER recruits people with lived experience, provides training and mobilizes community members to distribute harm reduction education and tools. AA POWER members provide tertiary prevention outreach, training, and advocacy, and receive training and professional development. Conduct direct street outreach, track outreach dissemination data and organize and track inventory of supplies. This position is typically performed outside of a traditional office environment. Work environments may include, but are not limited to, outdoors (e.g., during street outreach), at community-based organizations throughout the county, and in Department of Health offices. Required to have a valid driver's license and be able to travel to locations throughout Anne Arundel County for meetings and other business-related needs. |
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED) |
Experience: Must have a minimum of two years of recovery from a substance use or co-occurring disorder. Knowledge of the tertiary prevention framework and services. Knowledge of harm reduction, social services and health resources. Experience working with marginalized communities. Some experience with technology, specifically Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive. Excellent and situation-appropriate oral and written communication skills. |
