ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 28, 2026) – The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is reaching out to the community to announce the launch of the Supporting Overdose Loss Survivors (SOLS) program.
For families caring for a child or young adult who has lost a parent or guardian to an opioid overdose, direct help is now available. Funded by the Opioid Restitution Fund, this program provides immediate financial relief, educational scholarships and grief resources to help children and families build a healthy future.
What Support is Available?
Direct Financial Assistance: Eligible families receive a one-time base payment of $2,500, plus an additional $2,500 per eligible child. Funds are designed to help children who have lost a parent or guardian to opioid overdose in the past two years settle into a new home or routine and can be used for beds, furniture, clothing, school supplies, safety items, mental health counseling and youth activities.
College and Career Scholarships: To support long-term success, post-secondary scholarships of up to $10,000 are available for eligible young adults attending Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). This covers tuition and materials for associate degrees or workforce training certificates.
The SOLS Resource Hub: Families get immediate access to navigation for crisis intervention, food and housing assistance, and grief counseling.
