Large Sanitary Sewer Overflow Causes Closure in Linthicum Heights 2-9-26

Linthicum Heights (February 9, 2026) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has issued a closure for the Patapsco River between the areas of Holly Creek and the area near Thomas Avenue. The spill occurred on February 8, 2026, at 2:19 p.m. The sewage spill was resolved by 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening after repairs were made to the temporary bypass. The bypass was necessary for the upgrade and maintenance of the sewage pumping station.

The affected area has been limed, and warning signage has been posted. The Department of Health advises against direct water contact. The warning is in effect until February 16, 2026. The Department of Health will continue to evaluate this area and provide updates. People who come into contact with the affected water are advised to wash thoroughly with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
