Salary: $16.50 per hour

Job Description

Nature of Work: Functions as a nonclinical, peer-based position that engages, educates and supports youth and young adults to make life changes necessary to recover from a substance use disorder and/or mental health condition. The activities are educational and coaching in nature. Coming from a place of lived experience, the YPSS will serve as a role model, sharing their personal recovery process, coping techniques and self-help strategies. The YPSS is expected to consistently exercise sound judgement and establish appropriate boundaries at all times when working with youth. The YPSS is responsible for facilitating trainings and educational seminars, daily group programming, connecting with every new member to provide resources for recovery supports in the community, and ensuring that the clubhouse program is connecting with the adolescent families. A key element that enhances and distinguishes this position is that candidates appropriately highlight their personal experience of recovery.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED)
Experience:

  • Self-identifies as someone who has first-hand experience with substance use and mental health conditions.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of recovery.
  • Be able to use lived experience to assist in supporting youth in their recovery and wellness.
License or Certification:

  • Complete peer specialist core training, peer counselor or comparable training program from a recognized and approved source within six months of entry into position.
  • Achieve certification as a peer support specialist within first 18 months of hire.
Notes: Must be 18 to 30 years of age and a personal vehicle for travel.  Provide a personal recovery statement describing what skills and abilities he/she has to offer. No current criminal justice involvement.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Complete peer specialist core training, peer counselor or comparable training program from a recognized and approved source within six months of entry into position.
  • Achieve certification as a peer support specialist within first 18 months of hire.
