Job Description
Nature of Work:
Functions as a nonclinical, peer-based position that engages, educates and supports youth and young adults to make life changes necessary to recover from a substance use disorder and/or mental health condition. The activities are educational and coaching in nature. Coming from a place of lived experience, will serve as a role model, sharing their personal recovery process, coping techniques and self-help strategies. Expected to consistently exercise sound judgement and establish appropriate boundaries at all times when working with youth. Responsible for facilitating trainings and educational seminars, daily group programming, connecting with every new member to provide resources for recovery supports in the community, and ensuring that the clubhouse program is connecting with the adolescent families. A key element that enhances and distinguishes this position is that candidates appropriately highlight their personal experience of recovery. Will assist individuals at select community sites. |
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED). |
Experience:
Age 18 to 30 years old. At least 2 years of sustained and successful recovery from substances and have been a part of recovery-based support systems (i.e., 12-step community, Celebrate Recovery, faith-based recovery supports, etc. Strong desire to support individuals challenged with substance use disorders. Knowledge of principles, procedures and methods for behavioral and/or substance use rehabilitation; help individuals develop unique sobriety approaches. Working knowledge of Google Suite applications. Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate in both written and oral form in a satisfactory manner including but not limited to the use of assertive communication. If not already certified, will complete Certified Peer Recovery credentials within 18 months of hire. Ability to use a productive problem-solving approach. Required to have a personal vehicle available for use with mileage reimbursement provided per Department of Health policies and possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland. |
Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
Has obtained certified Peer Recovery Credentialing. |
