Job Description
| Nature of Work:
Working within the Scope of Practice for IBCLC Certificants, responsibilities include identifying needs of breastfeeding mother-baby pair and prevent, recognize and solve breastfeeding difficulties. Serve as an expert resource in the delivery of lactation care to Healthy Start clients and provide clinical expertise to staff. Provide clinical expertise and breastfeeding education during home visits, phone calls or during support groups to help improve breastfeeding success. Cooperate with Heathy Start efforts in breastfeeding promotion through outreach. Provide referrals to medical providers as indicated based on maternal, child and feeding assessments related to lactation. Required to have a personal vehicle available for use with mileage reimbursement provided per Department of Health policies and possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland. |
Minimum Qualifications
| Education: Bachelor’s degree. |
| Experience:
Demonstrated expertise in breastfeeding management and promotion. Expert knowledge of maternal child nursing and lactation. Minimum one year experience counseling breastfeeding women. Basic computer skills. |
| License or Certification:
Certification by IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Examiners) |
| Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
Home visiting experience |
