Location: Health Services Building, 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401

Salary: Sanitarian I (NR 12) – starting range $42,654, Sanitarian II(NR 15) – starting range $49,464

Benefits: Participation in the county’s group health plan (including dental, optical and prescription), paid holidays, annual leave and sick leave. The selected employee may also participate in the county’s deferred compensation program at his or her own expense.

Job Description

Nature of Work: This position conducts inspections and investigations for the promotion of environmental health, protection of the environment and the enforcement of state and local environmental health codes, laws and regulations. Field inspections and investigations are conducted on food service facilities, campgrounds, mobile home parks, prospective foster/adoptive homes, and private and commercial properties with follow-up action.

Minimum Qualifications

Environmental Health Specialist I: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in biological, environmental or physical sciences. Must possess a Certificate of Eligibility to be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

Environmental Health Specialist II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in biological, environmental or physical sciences with a least two years of professional experience in environmental health inspection work. Must possess a License as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

Valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
