Location: North County Health Center, 791 Aquahart Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21601 and Annapolis Health Center, 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401
Salary: $42.00 per hour.
Benefits: Participation in the County’s group health insurance program (including dental and optical), paid holidays and annual and sick leave. The selected employee may also participate in the County’s deferred compensation program at his or her own expense.
Nature of Work: The position of the dental hygienist supports the dental program in the provision of dental disease prevention and clinical services to the residents of Anne Arundel County. The selected candidate will focus on preventative oral health, including, but not limited to, oral hygiene techniques, prophylaxis, preventive procedures, patient education and community outreach. The selected candidate must be a graduate from an accredited dental hygiene program and possess a current Maryland dental hygiene license.
The candidate must be able to perform dental cleanings; apply fluoride and medicinal agents; prepare patients and organize equipment to facilitate dental treatment; obtain medical histories; and maintain dental files, charts and records. The selected candidate must also sterilize and maintain dental instruments, equipment, supplies, medications, and the dental room. The candidate must expose and develop x-rays; participate in surveys to determine the prevalence of tooth decay or periodontal disease; take impressions of the mouth for study models; and may assign, review and approve the work of dental assistants and other non-licensed staff. The selected candidate must also perform other related duties as specified by the dental program.
Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners under the licensing requirements for dental hygienist.
Experience: Two years of experience as a dental hygienist. The selected candidate must have the ability to communicate in both the English and Spanish.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:
- Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current certification as a dental hygienist from the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners.
- Candidate must possess and maintain a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
