Job Description

Nature of Work:

Working in tandem with the Program Manager for the Health Equity and Racial Justice (HERJ) Office, the consultant will secure public and private grant funding that builds upon existing partnerships and creates new ones to address the social determinant of health needs of Anne Arundel County residents who have poor health outcomes, are under-or-uninsured and die prematurely. Research, advise on and develop effective and efficient processes to administer grant-funded projects throughout their entire award lifecycle, from pre-award to close-out, with a focus on ensuring congruence with funding source requirements, terms and conditions and adherence to Anne Arundel County government and Department of Health policies and procedures. Research, develop and secure grant awards for the expansion of HERJ Office’s portfolio of grant-funded programs to confront racism as a public health issue, advance health equity in Anne Arundel County through policy, system and environmental changes, and support community mobilization and capacity building. Research novel, promising and well-evidenced community outreach strategies for marginalized, under-resourced and underrepresented communities. Discover local health priorities through participation in community health outreach events, meetings and activities. Maintain up-to-date schedule of work activities, including managing multiple grant application timelines and processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business management, English or a related field from an accredited college or university.

At least two years of community health outreach and/or grants development. Researching, writing, preparing, securing and managing complex grants to address health disparities and social determinants of health. Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, work within diverse teams and multicultural settings, and perform with a high degree of independence. Strong interpersonal, communicational, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills. Advanced skills in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

Training and/or certification in project management. Experience in leading the development and submission of multiple federal, state, foundation and/or private grant proposals. Capacity to write and speak Spanish or Korean to support community health outreach efforts and translation of health promotion materials. Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, researching and developing grant application templates and budgets. Displays a willingness and ability to fulfill requests for special assignments which will enhance the efficiency or effectiveness of the HERJ Office. Professional and tactful in dealing with co-workers, partners and general public. Dependable, adaptable and cooperative in setting and meeting goals. Demonstrates initiative and willingness to learn.
