Salary: $16.75 per hour
Benefits: Participation in the county’s group health plan (including prescription, dental and optical). Paid holidays, annual leave and sick leave. The selected employee may also participate in the county’s deferred compensation program at his or her own expense.
Nature of Work: This position is responsible for secretarial and administrative functions within the Dental Health Program. This position provides a full range of support for staff ensuring proper patient flow by scheduling clients for appointments and maximizing clinic capacity. Duties include understanding office procedures, recording appointments, verifying eligibility, providing customer service, medical billing. Must be able to initiate duties independently. The individual must also have good customer service skills when working with the public, face-to-face and over the phone, as well as the ability to learn specialized computer systems and programs. The position maintains important and confidential records and schedules. The individual will update, verify and retrieve data using computer databases or spreadsheet software applications.
The position may also use word processing, database, spreadsheet or desktop publishing computer software applications in order to prepare and maintain statistical and numerical reports, charts, graphs or other documents. The position types manuscripts, correspondence, statements, tables and forms. This position also opens, sorts, reads and distributes incoming correspondence.
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a state high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties. Must have the ability to communicate fluently, both verbally and in writing, in both the English and Spanish languages.
Notes: Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Must have a valid Maryland Driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications: Strong customer service and clerical skills with the ability to multitask and communicate effectively. Prior experience working at the front desk in a medical setting preferred.
