Meningococcal and Tdap Vaccines for Students Entering Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Grade

For all Maryland students entering the seventh, eighth and ninth grade, meningococcal and Tdap vaccines are now required. These vaccines help prevent bacterial meningitis, whooping cough, tetanus and diphtheria.

Children should see their primary health care provider to get the required vaccines for school, and parents must provide proof of vaccinations to the school nurse.

This summer, the Anne Arundel County Department of Health will hold free meningococcal and Tdap vaccine clinics to rising seventh graders who are uninsured or on medical assistance. Clinic dates follow.

A parent or guardian must accompany the child to sign the consent forms and should bring their child’s immunization records.
