The Health Information and Promotion Division is responsible for providing community-based health information programs and services to all Anne Arundel County residents.
The Division's programs include:
- Learn To Live: Provides accurate, reliable and culturally appropriate health education and information to encourage adults and youth who live, work or attend school in Anne Arundel County to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Community information is provided on the Department's Web site; through the Learn To Live Information Line (410-222-7979); with print, cable and Internet advertising campaigns; and at presentations and health fairs at local churches, businesses, community associations and public events.
- Adult Risk Reduction: Coordinates adult focused community programs in the areas of tobacco cessation, worksite wellness, cardiovascular disease and healthy lifestyle education.
- Youth Risk Reduction: Provides youth oriented activities and programs that promote healthy eating, physical activity, sun safety, injury prevention, tobacco use prevention and teen health.
- Office of Minority Health: Coordinates with minority community organizations to develop and implement programs in the areas of cancer, tobacco use prevention and cessation and other minority health priorities.
- Cancer Screening Services: Provides free screening and case management services to eligible Anne Arundel County residents for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer.
- Women, Infants and Children Program: A supplemental nutrition program for eligible pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, postpartum women, infants and children up to age 5. Benefits include healthy food, nutrition education, breastfeeding information and referrals to other programs.
The Health Information and Promotion Division also includes the Department of Health's Public Affairs Office and Web Administration Services. The Public Affairs Office is responsible for proactive and reactive media relations, special events and publications for the Department.
