1-8-26: Small Sanitary Sewer Overflow Causes Closure in City of Annapolis

Annapolis (January 8, 2026) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has issued a warning for Spa Creek at Hilltop Road and Boxwood Road to the end of Truxton Park. The 9,000 gallon sewage spill was caused by a grease blockage within the City of Annapolis. The spill occurred on January 7, 2026 at 1:45 p.m. The blockage was resolved and the problem corrected. 

The affected area has been limed and warning signage is posted. The Department of Health advises against direct water contact. The warning is in effect until January 14, 2026. The Department of Health will continue to evaluate this area and provide updates. People coming in contact with the affected water are advised to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
