Job Description

Nature of Work: Under the direction of the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator, the peer counselor is responsible for providing individual in-person and telephone counseling, along with leading group educational classes about breastfeeding for pregnant and breastfeeding WIC clients. The peer counselor must be enthusiastic about breastfeeding and want to help other WIC clients have a positive and successful breastfeeding experience. Successful applicants will need to attend the WIC peer counselor training program and must be able to perform basic computer skills. The work may require travel to various locations throughout the county. Must be able to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalency (GED).

Experience: Applicants must have breastfed exclusively and successfully for at least three months and have participated in the WIC program as an adult.

Notes: Preference will be given to those candidates who are bilingual in Spanish.
