Two Positions

Position 1 –   The main focus of this position will be conducting inspections of on-site sewage disposal systems.
Position 2 –   The main focus of this position will be enforcing well construction regulations.

Location: Health Services Building, 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis

Salary:    

Environmental Health Specialist I  -  starting at $41,818
Environmental Health Specialist II - starting at $48,494

Job Description

Nature of Work:  This position conducts inspections and investigations for the promotion of environmental health, for the protection of the environment and for the enforcement of state and local environmental health codes, laws and regulations.  This position will work in the Sanitary Engineering Program in either the Construction, Inspection Compliance Unit with a focus on performing inspections of on-site sewage disposal systems; or the Wells, Water Quality, Sludge Site Unit which will enforce regulations for well construction and determine compliance with state and local code requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Environmental Health Specialist I:  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in biological, environmental, or physical sciences.  Must possess a Certificate of Eligibility to be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

Environmental Health Specialist II:  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in biological, environmental, or physical sciences with a least two years professional experience in environmental health inspection work.  Must possess a License as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

Valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
