Salary:

  • Community Health Outreach Worker I - $13.69 per hour for 20 hours per week.
  • Community Health Outreach Worker II – $15.28 per hour for 20 hours per week.

Job Description:

Nature of Work: Nature of Work: Reporting to the Program Administrator for HIV and STD Prevention and Care, this position, under close supervision, will be responsible for providing HIV and STD prevention education to improve the health of gay, bisexual, same-gender-loving, and non-gay-identifying men who have sex with men (MSM), especially Hispanic and African-American MSM residing in Anne Arundel County. The position pursues this goal by providing education and outreach to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and by providing opportunities for MSM to learn their HIV status and be connected to care. The position will also be responsible for providing counseling and testing to individuals, and making appropriate referrals for HIV and STD services. The position requires frequent travel throughout Anne Arundel County. The selected candidate will be required to provide his/her own transportation and will be reimbursed for use of a personal vehicle in accordance with the Department of Health’s travel reimbursement policies. A flexible work schedule is required to facilitate contact with targeted groups and individuals, which may involve evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

Community Health Outreach Worker I

  1. Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  2. Experience: None.

Community Health Outreach Worker II

  1. Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  2. Experience: One year of experience providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications: Consideration will be given to individuals who can demonstrate knowledge and experience in the LGBT community in Anne Arundel County; know LGBT leaders; and are able to educate the LGBT population on health care issues.

License: The selected candidate will be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
