Medicare Part B will cover the suggested donation cost, but individuals must bring their Medicare cards and cannot be enrolled in an HMO. See Find a Flu Shot for other area flu clinic locations. The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend seasonal flu vaccinations for anyone who wants to reduce the risk of becoming ill with seasonal flu or transmitting it to others. The CDC has also identified these priority groups for getting seasonal flu vaccine: children from 6 months to 18 years old; people 50 years of age and older; individuals with chronic medical conditions such as heart, kidney, liver or lung disease, diabetes, cancer or HIV/AIDS; pregnant women; residents of long-term care facilities; health care personnel; and household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children less than 5 years old and of adults age 65 and older. The seasonal flu vaccine does not protect against the H1N1 (swine) flu, but it does protect against strains of seasonal influenza. Seasonal influenza can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Each year, in the United States, on average 36,000 people die from seasonal flu-related complications and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from seasonal flu-related causes.
